"Mountain Biker, Orienteer, Trail Runner, Road Cyclist, Medical Student."
I am a 22 year old endurance sport athlete from New Zealand. Orienteering, Mountain Biking, Trail Running, Road Cyclist, Multisport, Adventure Racing - if it involves endurance I'll try it. I combine my training and racing with medical studies; I am currently in my 5th year of medical school at Auckland University.
I have been racing mountain bikes and competing at orienteering since my early teens. My first experiences of competitive endurance sport were xc mountain biking races of Auckland. Through my teens I diversified my racing and training. Mountain Biking and Orienteering stayed at the fore but I also included other sports. My mountain biking took me to the 2006 World Mountain Biking Champs and Orienteering provided National representation across the Tasman in Australia for New Zealand Schools.
3 Junior World Orienteering Champs, 2 World Orienteering Champs and 3 trips to Europe have been the focus of training in recent years. Building for these races has given me a broad training base on which I have built more specific plans for events in other codes. I have raced a number of 24 hour adventure races, multi-day road cycling tours, numerous off road runs and of course many mountain bike events. This competition has kept me inspired and driven through the last 5 years of medical school. I plan to graduate at the end of 2012 ready to work as a doctor.
